Early Spring Updates
Happy approaching spring! We’ve had some beautiful days recently and while I will personally miss the cold, I’m also excited for the sun to actually feel warm again and see the color green.
My first, and most time-sensitive, update: I’m going to be a guest on an episode of In the Making tomorrow (March 12th, 11am Eastern) about acquiring a business! In the Making is a great series of interviews hosted by Kristen Odle-Devine, where they “connect with a range of new voices, fields, and perspectives. Join us for an insider’s view of the lives and work of those who practice and appreciate craft in all its forms—artists, tradespeople, curators, community leaders, chefs, scholars, and others.”
You can find more details on the talk on NBSS's website—it will be both live at North Bennet Street School in Boston and streamed via Zoom. If you can’t make it tomorrow, it will eventually end up on YouTube. (ETA: talk is now on Youtube!)
The last six months have been filled with a large production project for Suntup Editions (now happily wrapped up), but in between that work, I was able to complete my book >cathexis, which is now on view at NBSS in the 40 Years of Bookbinding and Preservation Carpentry exhibit (up through 4/10/26 in Boston).
This book is a result of my ongoing explorations on love and was bound during my one bookbinding class last year. >cathexis starts by exploring romantic and platonic love—how they are differentiated, but most importantly, how they overlap. Pulling from a variety of different sources, it carries you through an investigation of love in its many forms and enthuses that love is so much wider and deeper than popular cultural depictions. It’s been invigorating to bring that book out of my brain, into a physical format—and feels like a timely balm. While this specific binding is an artist’s proof and binding model I'm planning on holding on to, I’m looking forward to creating an edition of >cathexis to share it more widely!
Upcoming Craft Fairs
I’ll be out in the world for two markets in the first half of this year. You can find me first at the Basilica Farm and Flea Spring Market in Hudson, NY over Mother’s Day weekend (May 9-10, 10a-5p) and then July 11-12 I’ll be at the Vintage in Hudson Valley Festival! My table will have an array of blank books, rebinds, and lino prints ready for you to take home and enjoy!
If you have a book needing repair and you’re curious what that would look like, I’m also happy to do a consultation while there! Just bring that book to the fair with you and we can chat about possible repairs and pricing.
